The Gaur family ( Shishir Gaur, Sunita Gaur, and Reyansh Gaur) from Jabalpur has set an inspiring example of courage and family unity by successfully scaling Mount Yunam (6,111 meters / 20,049 feet) in the Lahaul-Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh.
Jabalpur, (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 29: The Gaur family from Sukh Sagar Valley, Gwarighat, Jabalpur, has set an inspiring example of courage, determination, and family unity by successfully summiting Mount Yunam (6,111 meters / 20,049 feet) in the Lahaul-Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh.
The family members who completed this challenging expedition are Shishir Gaur (45), Sunita Gaur (44), and their son Reyansh Gaur (15).
The expedition took place from 06 June to 12 June 2026 organize by broza adventures trek company, beginning in Manali and progressing through Patseo Camp, Bharatpur Base Camp, and the Advance/Summit Camp before reaching the peak of Mount Yunam, during which the family faced harsh weather conditions, low oxygen levels, and demanding mountain terrain. Mount Yunam, standing at approximately 20,049 feet (6,111 meters) above sea level, is considered one of India’s most challenging trekking and mountaineering peaks.
Based on publicly available information and online searches conducted by the family, they believe they may be among the first—and possibly the first documented complete Indian family consisting of a father, mother, and son—to successfully summit Mount Yunam together. While several high-altitude trekking and mountaineering achievements have been recorded by family combinations such as father-son, mother-son, father-daughter, mother-daughter, and husband-wife teams, the family has not found any publicly documented instance of an Indian father-mother-son trio achieving the Mount Yunam summit together. As of now, this remains a claim based on available public records and online research and is subject to independent verification.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the expedition was the achievement of 15-year-old Reyansh Gaur. Based on publicly available information and online research conducted by the family, they believe 15 yrs old Reyansh may be the first child from the state of Madhya Pradesh to successfully summit a peak above 20,000 feet in such a young age. His remarkable accomplishment demonstrates exceptional determination, physical endurance, and mental resilience. Through disciplined training, careful preparation, and unwavering self-confidence, Reyansh successfully conquered the challenges of high-altitude mountaineering.
During the expedition, the team encountered severe cold, strong winds, low oxygen levels, and the physical challenges associated with high-altitude climbing. Despite these obstacles, the Gaur family remained focused and resilient, ultimately achieving their goal successfully.
Earlier family Travel & Adventure activity

In 2024, the family undertook an extraordinary road expedition on a two-wheeler, covering nearly 300 kilometers through the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. The journey was not merely a road trip but an exploration of some of the state’s most scenic and culturally significant destinations. During the expedition, they travelled through Rishikesh, Haridwar, Chamba, Kodiyala Beach, Rudraprayag, Kanatal, Mussoorie, and Dhanaulti, experiencing the diverse landscapes of the Garhwal Himalayas.
The challenging route included winding mountain roads, changing weather conditions, steep ascents, and long hours of travel, making the journey a true test of determination and endurance. The expedition also provided valuable experience in navigating Himalayan terrain and strengthened the family’s passion for outdoor adventure.
Building on this experience, the family took their next major step in 2025 by completing the Kedarkantha Trek in Uttarakhand. Rising to an altitude of approximately 12,500 feet, Kedarkantha is one of India’s most popular winter treks and is known for its steep climbs, dense forests, snow-covered trails, and breathtaking summit views.
Shishir Gaur, Sunita Gaur, and Reyansh Gaur have demonstrated that with family support, unwavering determination, and hard work, even the most difficult goals can be achieved. Their success serves as an inspiration for future generations and sets a new benchmark in adventure sports and mountaineering.
